Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Toner

This glycolic acid exfoliating toner is for skin that looks dull, feels rough or has an uneven tone because dead cells build up on the surface. It suits all skin types. It is a liquid exfoliant for a few evenings a week, not a daily hydrating toner. Glycolic acid is the second ingredient, straight after water, at 5%. It is the smallest alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and loosens the bonds holding dead cells to the surface so they shed more evenly, which helps skin feel smoother and look brighter, with a more even tone. Potassium hydroxide partly neutralises the acid to set the pH. Glycerin, betaine and sodium PCA (part of the skin's natural moisturising factor) are humectants that help keep the surface hydrated. Cranberry and lingonberry fruit extracts from organic farming are present in small amounts. Apply to clean, dry skin in the evening, a few times a week, then follow with a moisturiser such as the Sensitive Skin Moisturiser, Fragrance Free. Patch-test first, as acids can sting sensitive skin, and skip it on evenings you use another exfoliant such as the AHA Peeling Concentrate. Glycolic acid makes skin more sensitive to the sun, so wear SPF the next day. There is no parfum in the formula.
